This poster summarizes an examination of pregnancy-related mortality in South Carolina from 2011 - 2015 using death certificate and birth certificate data, and pre-dates the establishment of a mortality review in South Carolina. For the purposes of this report pregnancy-related mortality is defined as a death during pregnancy or a death within 42 days of pregnancy with one of the following International Classification of Diseases, 10th revision (ICD-10) cause of death codes: A34, O00-O95, O98, or O99. This is based on the definition used by the National Center for Health Statistics. This document serves as a vital first step in describing the need for a Pregnancy-Associated Mortality Review in South Carolina.
