Brief Overview of State MMR or PAMR

Georgia Maternal Mortality Review Committee (GA MMRC) reconvened in 2012. All possible deaths of women while pregnant or within one year of end of pregnancy are reviewed and prioritized for abstraction by a sub-committee. The committee has 45 members that meet quarterly to review cases selected for abstraction. In 2012, GA had 20 pregnancy-related deaths per 100,000 live births. Our mission is to review pregnancy-associated deaths to identify interventions that may reduce these deaths.

The following manuscript details findings from a limited review conducted before the Georgia MMRC had a full review authority. It demonstrates the demographics states can examine before having full permissions to access records and discuss preventability.
